Diamonds

This tune started off as a simple two chord progression. It was originally a very slow meditative piece.

When I started laying down the tracks I felt like it lacked movement. Even though it was supposed to be a slow more legato type of tune it lacked the energy I was shooting for.

I experimented by adding programmed drums and the song did a complete 180. It went from being a slow melodic sleeper to a vibrant high energy jam. I always favor the song over flashy technical guitar chops and I think this song is a good example of that.

Why is it called Diamonds?

My kids are great artists. Every kid is! When I get a new picture from one my kids it immediately gets put up on the wall. It makes me feel so special that they would make something from their own hands as a present for me.

My daughter gave me one of these special gifts a short while back. It had a sun in the top left corner, a diamond at the bottom right and “diamond” written with fancy letters in the middle. I think she just thought it was cool and she wanted to give it to me.

Every time I listen to Diamonds I’m reminded of her gift and also how God sees us as even more precious than diamonds.

But you, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness. -Psalm 86:15

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. -John 3:16
