About 15 years ago Tonos.com sponsored a contest where I got to co-write a song with Steve Vai. Actually, it was pretty much just me coming up with all of the guitar leads and melodies in front of Steve’s backing tracks.
It was the perfect scenario for me since my studio has always been guitar friendly. I had a lot of fun with this song and I thought it turned out great.
In the end I didn’t win but I had a blast writing and recording the piece.
Such is life. It’s fun to win prizes and get recognition for our efforts but it doesn’t always work out like that. Actually, most of the time it’s the opposite. If you only focus on the prize you lose out on the beauty of experience.
Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, 24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ. -Colossians 3:23-24
